Next New

I would create a Baruch forum for people who have or are attending Baruch or work at Baruch. In this forum individuals can have sub topics such as a food section, dating section, or general rating of professors section. Post will be made by individual who attend Baruch. Individuals can post up information and they can do it anomalously if they wish to do so. Baruch students can log on to this page like how they log on to blackboard to get the most updated information regarding school events or they can check out what other students are talking about in school such as new food places or the next big events that a club is hosting.

Wiki So Far

Unfortunately I yet to contribute to our class wiki page. However, I do have a few ideas that I would like to add on to our class wiki page. I would like to venture into that the Food area because I would like to write about the amazing food we have in New York City. Moreover, I would like to venture off into the New York City night life because sometimes. I would like to do research on what are the places that people can go if they want to hang out at night.

P2P

File sharing is providing different types of internet based site used as a storage space to store data such music, pictures, documents, and games. File sharing usually requires you to upload you document onto a central server. Moreover, with file sharing one can transfer one file from the computer to another computer.
P2P stands for peer to peer networking.  All individuals who are in the network have equal privileged access to the file. Users can provide and use the information. Some examples of peer to peer sharing are Gnutella, G2 and eDonkey.  P2P file sharing does not necessary require an individual to upload their files onto the internet. According to Chris Nuttall, in a articled called “File sharing joins the mainstream”, BitTorrent, currently the most popular P2P tool causes 40-50% of all internet traffic because it breaks big files into smaller files so that it allows the files to be downloaded faster and easier.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Social media have become a daily routine in many people lives. Many social media requires an individual to post up their personal information in order for them to create an account. This information may include but not limited to the name, email, address, birthday, and telephone number. Moreover, many people on social media tend to post up pictures of themselves and their friends. All this information being publicly released on social media can cause an identity theft of a third party user. Third party user may gather up all these useful information to use your identity for someone else. Social media does not provide a safe and source services to protect one’s personal information. Social media have low privacy and confidentiality.

Advice to Baruch College

I would suggest Baruch College to promote themselves on every single social media there is. I would create a Facebook account for Baruch so that parents, students, and outsiders can have access to information such as student body, clubs, and events that are happening  Baruch College. Next, I would recommend Baruch College to create a LinkedIn account so that they can give students an opportunity to show themselves at profession events that Baruch occasionally host. Lastly, I would create an Instagram page for Baruch College to post up pictures of events that are being held by Baruch student/ clubs to promote our culture and student life actives.

Creativity and New Media

Above is a snapshot of my avatar named Blbear93. I used Second Life to create this avatar. My avatar is flying across the ocean because I always wanted to travel around the world but due to the expenses, I don’t travel often. Moreover, my avatar have the power to fly because I always wanted to fly to get to where I have to be. Flying is always faster than walking.

CREATIVTY

According to Barnes, new media foster creativity for many individuals who have access to the internet. YouTube users often use the program called mash-ups to combine snippets of other videos to create a new video. For example, a YouTube user used the song called “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” to combine snippets of Disney movies together. Within months, the videos started to gain popularity and the song has climb its way up to the No.1 hit on Billboard Hot 100 of the month.  New media allow individuals to turn something old into something new by altering the original version of the product.
